Peräpohjolan Opisto
The Peräpohjola Opisto was established
on November 4th 1901. Our Folk High School is a boarding school
situated in a historically valuable building in Kiviranta, Tornio.
Education has continued on the same premises since 1904. The
Institute offers an ideal setting for meetings, education and
various festiviteis with its cosy and modern facilities. We have
courses all the year round and there are 35 full time employees.
The total number of the students per year varies from approximately 280 to 350.
The Peräpohjola Opisto is one of the folk high schools and owners of twelve separate units of the Finnish Humanities Polytechnics Ltd. It is the largest unit as regards the total number of students.
The main activities at the Peräpohjola Opisto are the follows:
organisation of civic education and maintenance of special training arranged by enterprises
the basic diploma of youth and leisure time instruction as a professional education
the Civic and Youth Work Program leading to a diploma of a community pedagogue
commercial services including catering, accomodation, education and festivities organised by the brand Joentalo
